Marine & Beach
Mida Creek is a vast tidal lagoon fringed by one of the largest mangrove forests on the Kenyan coast — an ecosystem so important it's recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This late-afternoon cruise threads a traditional wooden dhow through narrow mangrove channels as the tide rises, emerging into the open creek just as flocks of wading birds — flamingos, herons and crab plovers among them — wheel overhead heading to roost. Anchor mid-creek for a swim in the warm, sheltered water, then feast on a chef-prepared seafood platter as the sun drops behind the palms, painting the water in molten gold and copper.
Board your dhow at Mida Creek jetty mid-afternoon and drift through quiet mangrove tunnels where kingfishers and herons perch overhead. As the channel opens into the main creek, anchor for a relaxed swim before the crew lays out a fresh seafood spread — crab, prawns, grilled fish and coastal sides — while the sun sinks toward the horizon. Sail back under a darkening sky lit amber and rose, with a warm drink in hand.
